What does Israel-Iran war mean for Lebanon?

There has been much talk lately about a possibility of Israel attacking Iran to prevent their ambitious nuclear program.

Side effects of nuclear science: 4 finger scientists

The Obama Administration has said they haven't decided on a stance should this happen. David Ignatius' commentary on the subject last week said,

The Obama Administration currently appears to favor a policy of staying out of the conflict, unless Iran hits US assets, which would trigger a strong U.S. response.

What would such an attack mean for Lebanon though?

Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah has said that Iran would not ask Hezbollah to do anything.

"Chill bro, we got this"

It's widely known that Hezbollah's principal supporter is Iran. However, Hezbollah also plays a significant role in the current Lebanese government.

Hezbollah would certainly be split by such a predicament, however with them in power it is possible that their hands are tied.

My thoughts are that if such an event is to occur, Lebanese stability may be safe for the time being.

  1. I think your being too hopeful here. Hezbollah likes to give off the idea within Lebanon (for obvious reasons) that it is relatively independent from Iran, but I think this is a bit of a smoke screen. If Iran came under attack and they asked Hezbollah to hit Israel in retalition, Hezb would do it. No Question
